UFC 214: Jones Knocks Out Cormier Before Sellout Crowd In Anaheim

UFC 214 last night earned a live gate of $2.4M with a sellout crowd of 16,610 at Anaheim's Honda Center. The main event saw Jon Jones KO Daniel Cormier to regain the light heavyweight belt (UFC). Cormier "earned a disclosed fight purse" of $1M for the fight while Jones earned $500,000 in show money (CBSSPORTS.com, 7/30). After the fight, Jones "called out" former UFCer and current WWE talent Brock Lesnar (N.Y. POST, 7/30). CBSSPORTS.com headline: "Jon Jones Proves Once Again To Be The Shining Star UFC Needs At A Desperate Time."

Just minutes after the fight, Cormier was interviewed by UFC analyst Joe Rogan, and the interview "angered Cormier's coach," Javier Mendez. Cormier was "diagnosed with a concussion minutes" after the interview, and UFC President Dana White said that the interview "didn't come on orders from UFC officials." Mendez in a text said, "He had no business being interviewed. Bad move. Rogan probably feels bad" (USATODAY.com, 7/30).
