Weekend Briefs....

This week's N.Y. TIMES MAGAZINE examines the NFL's ongoing concussions lawsuit in a cover story under the header, "Is Football The Next Tobacco?"

The news of domestic violence allegations against NASCAR driver Kurt Busch led ESPN’s “NASCAR Countdown” pre-race show ahead of today’s Quicken Loans Race For Heroes 500 at Phoenix Int'l Raceway (THE DAILY).

There were "two power outages" during Friday night's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix. One "delayed the start," and the other brought the race "to an early conclusion" with 24 laps remaining (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 11/9).

Chase Elliott "became the youngest champion in NASCAR history Saturday when he wrapped up the Nationwide Series title." The 18-year-old rookie, and son of NASCAR HOFer Bill Elliott, is the "youngest driver to win a title in any of NASCAR's three national series" (AP, 11/8).

UFC last night announced that UFC Fight Night "will take place" on Feb. 14 at FirstBank Center in Broomfield, Colo., with national TV coverage provided by FS1 (DENVER POST, 11/9).

Yesterday's Army-UConn football game at Yankee Stadium was played "before an announced crowd of 27,453" (N.Y. TIMES, 11/9).

Tonight's Bears-Packers "SNF" game on NBC "will mark the ninth straight year the rivalry will be featured in prime time," which ties an NFL record set by Raiders-Chargers, who "had their matchup in prime time each year" from '81-89 (CHICAGOTRIBUNE.com, 11/6).

Hawks co-Owners Ed Peskowitz and Todd Foreman last night attended the team's home game against the Knicks -- the "first time the two have attended a game, albeit early in the season, since the news broke this summer that their partner Bruce Levenson agreed to sell his interest in the team" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 11/9).
