Marlins' Owner Loria Defends Offseason Decisons In Full-Page Ad

Marlins Owner Jeffrey Loria broke his offseason silence today, defending the team’s move this winter in an open letter to fans that ran in the Miami Herald. Loria writes, “Many grabbed hold of our tough yet necessary decisions only to unleash a vicious cycle of negativity. As the owner of this ballclub, the buck stops with me and I take my share of blame where it’s due. However, many of the things being said about us simply are not true.” He goes on to write losing is “unacceptable” to him, though the team does not have “unlimited funds” (MIAMIHERALD.com, 2/24).

The Marlins’ Grapefruit League opener yesterday “drew an announced crowd of 3,504 to Roger Dean Stadium -- a decline of nearly 50 percent from the Marlins’ first Saturday home game last spring” (FOXSPORTS.com, 2/24).
