No Talks Scheduled As NHL Season Continues To Fade

The NHL lockout on Friday “claimed more casualties” as two more weeks of the season were cancelled by the league along with the All-Star Game, "even as the two sides declined to meet and talk of the union decertifying dominates the headlines” (GLOBE & MAIL, 11/25). The cancellation through Dec. 14 “brings the total of regular-season games scratched during the lockout to 422, amounting to 34.3 percent of the season.” The sides “did not negotiate Friday" (N.Y. TIMES, 11/24). No new talks “are planned” (TORONTO STAR, 11/24).

The cancellation of the All-Star Game was a “setback for the Blue Jackets, who are trying to rejuvenate a moribund franchise, and a financial hit for the city, which will lose" $12M in revenue and "as much as" $50M in media exposure. The earliest the Blue Jackets would be able to host the game would likely be '15 (DISPATCH.com, 11/24).
