Magic Johnson talks Dodgers, sports investments

With the Dodgers starting their playoff run tonight against the Padres, Magic Johnson talked about his stake in the team and noted the current ownership group has been in place for 10 years: “We’ve been No. 1 in attendance for 10 straight years, and what’s great, we travel well. Our fans go to the opponent’s ballparks.” ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel: “Is that true? Because typically you see the opposite. You go to the Rams game and the Cowboys fans seem to (outnumber Rams fans).” Kimmel asked, “Do you want an NFL team too?” Johnson: “That’d be next.”

The two also talked about Dodgers RF Mookie Betts’ talent for bowling and the possibility he could compete on the PBA Pro Bowling tour. Kimmel: “Will you buy the bowling tour also if he gets on it?” Johnson: “I would invest in it, not question about it.” Kimmel noted Johnson is now involved in NFTs and he is “selling, basically, a great play that you were involved with, so if somebody wants to own a part of your playing career.” The NFT depicts Johnson hitting a game-winning bank shot against the Celtics. Johnson: “It’s really just actually taking it to another level in terms of trading cards” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 10/10).
