Tampa Mayor Promises Safe Celebration For Buccaneers

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said that she is "confident" the celebration of the Buccaneers' Super Bowl win "can be done safely." Castor: “We definitely have to celebrate this momentous occasion.” She indicated that planning with the Buccaneers is "underway and more details should become available" today or tomorrow. Asked if she was concerned a parade would become a super spreader event, Castor "expressed confidence that the majority of Tampa residents would do the right thing." A celebration "would be held outdoors." Castor referenced the Lightning's September boat parade as a "good example of a safe precedent" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 2/9).

Meanwhile, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel asked Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians about the fact that the traditional Gatorade victory bath "was not really on CBS, they kind of missed it.” Arians: “I’ve only had one of those in my entire career and that was way back at Temple. ... That s*** was cold, man was it cold.” Kimmel: “People were upset because a lot of people bet on what color the Gatorade is going to be. It was blue, and nobody knew until after the game was over. Who decides what color the Gatorade is?” Arians: “I have nothing to do with the Gatorade; that’s our trainers and I guess our players say what flavors they like.” Kimmel said of the Buccaneers having a team party at The Florida Aquarium in Tampa, “I would imagine that there were some very nervous manatees with Gronk running around drinking at an aquarium” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 2/8).
