SailGP Plans To Become First Climate-Positive Sports League

SailGP plans to be the first climate-positive sports league, which it will accomplish through emissions reductions and financial support for environmental programs. The sailing league will convert its support boats to electric motors, with the goal of establishing a fully electric support fleet by ‘25, in addition to expanding the use of solar power through an existing partnership with Tesla and implementing carbon fiber recycling, which will allow materials to be reused for future boat production. The league’s eight teams will also sign partnerships with local charitable partners, offering them boat signage and a share of race winnings.

The sailing league’s emissions will be tracked by One Carbon World, and SailGP will contribute to Worldview Int’l Foundation’s mission of planting one billion mangrove trees as a means of offsetting the league’s remaining carbon footprint.
