iHeartMedia Adds Sports Breaks Across All Radio Stations

Starting today, iHeartMedia has added regular national, regional and local sports breaks to its 500+ radio stations, most of which are not sports focused. So, don’t be surprised to hear sports personalities like Cris Collinsworth, Colin Cowherd, Dan Patrick and Joy Taylor on non-sports radio stations. The breaks are patterned along the lines of the way stations handle weather and traffic. The move is part of iHeartMedia’s launch of the iHeartSports Network on stations with formats that range from rock, country, hip hop, news, talk and sports -- formats that iHeartMedia says index high against sports interest. The company cites a Scarborough research study that said 83% of sports fans want daily updates. It also cited a Nielsen stat that says 89% of sports fans listen to the radio every week.
