Fox Sports Updates App With Emphasis On Video, Live Streaming

Fox Sports launched a redesigned app and website today that will focus on video, storytelling, statistics and authenticated live streaming. The most noticeable part of the app will be feature stories allowing users to swipe from one topic to another. Fox Sports Exec VP & Head of Digital David Katz: "It is the first thing you see in the app. From the way people now use social media products and dating apps, you will now swipe your way through the content until you see stories that you like.”

The app and website will allow for live streaming, including the use of bonus cams that will allow for multiple feeds on-screen at the same time. The bonus cams will be used this week during Fox Sports’ MLB production. “Live game streaming is so critical to our business model,” Katz said. “This bonus cam experience won't be for every game. It will be for select experiences. We think fans today love the idea of being able to almost control a little bit of their viewing experience.”

The app will have “Watch Parties” around special events, like the one it did at this year’s Super Bowl with Joe Montana, Brett Favre and Drew Brees. The app will prioritize scores and allow users to personalize their experience. “We have a different, more modernized way of storytelling that leverages the strength of Fox Sports,” Katz said.
