Ole Miss Quarantines Athletes Over Close Contact With Virus

The Ole Miss athletics department confirmed yesterday that “nine athletes were quarantined because of close contact with a person who tested positive for coronavirus.” Ole Miss Assistant AD Shannon Singletary said that the athletes are quarantined “at their residence in Oxford for 14 days and self-monitoring for symptoms in accordance with proper medical guidelines.” The “first wave of approximately 70 Ole Miss student-athletes returned to campus on June 1” (Jackson CLARION-LEDGER, 6/15).

That comes after four Mississippi State football players last week tested positive for the virus. They were “ordered to stay away from team activities for two weeks to prevent the spread of the virus to teammates” (Jackson CLARION-LEDGER, 6/12).
