NWSL Unveils Plan For 25-Match Season At Single Site

The NWSL will return to action on June 27 with a 25-match tournament at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah, the league announced this morning. The '20 Challenge Cup, as the spectator-less competition is being called, will be sponsored by P&G and Secret. Budweiser has presenting sponsorship for the semifinals and finals, both to be held at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. The championship is scheduled for July 26. All matches will be streamed live by CBS All Access, with both the tournament opener and finals airing on CBS. Those outside the U.S. and Canada can stream all matches on Twitch.

As part of today’s announcement, the NWSL also reached a new multiyear sponsorship deal with Verizon.

NWSL Commissioner Lisa Baird: “As our country begins to safely reopen and adjust to our collective new reality, and with the enthusiastic support of our players, owners, as well as our new and current commercial partners, the NWSL is thrilled to bring professional soccer back to the United States.” All nine NWSL clubs will play four matches in the preliminary rounds to determine seeding, followed by the top eight teams advancing to the quarterfinals in a single-elimination format.
