Silver: Too Many Unknowns To Predict Return Of NBA

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said of a timeline for the league's return, "At least for the month of April, we won’t be in a position to make any decisions. I don’t think that necessarily means on May 1 we will be." Silver, appearing from home on the “#NBATogether” podcast with host Ernie Johnson, said it is “hard to imagine that three-plus weeks later” after the NBA suspended the season, “we wouldn’t have a better understanding of where we are.” Silver: “Sitting here today, I know less, in a way, than I did then.”

Silver said the way COVID-19 is “moving is potentially faster than maybe we had thought" when the league suspended play, and “therefore may peak earlier." Silver: "What that means in terms of our ability to come back at some point in late spring or summer is still unknown to me. ... We aren’t looking at many different scenarios for restarting the season. Honestly, it’s just too early.” But Silver did add, "As a I look out into the summer, there does come a point where we would start impacting next season.” The league “would love to be part of the movement to restart the economy” (“#NBATogether,” 4/6).
