Sources: NBA, NBPA In Talks To Withhold Part Of Salaries

The NBA and NBPA are “discussing scenarios for withholding up to 25% of players' remaining salaries in a league escrow should regular-season games eventually be canceled,” according to sources. The CBA calls for players to lose “approximately 1% of salary per canceled game, based on a force majeure provision.” If there is no forthcoming NBA and NBPA deal on “beginning to withhold a percentage of players' salaries with the April 15 paychecks, players would continue to be paid in full on a normal timetable.” Sources said that the NBA “has no plans to announce the cancellation of games in the immediate future” (ESPN.com, 3/31).
