Magic Johnson was a guest on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last night and said of his efforts to honor Kobe Bryant, "We should do something positive, whether it is making sure that we love our family or giving back to an organization in his name. We should do something great, because he was such a great man, great husband, great father, incredible basketball player.” Jimmy Kimmel: “You both called each other the greatest Laker of all time, and it didn’t seem like either one of you was just being nice about it. It seemed like you both meant it.”
Johnson told a story of playing Bryant one-on-one in practice: “I was older and he was in his prime killing me so I was like, ‘I got to cheat.’” Kimmel: “It was like you were on the Houston Astros almost. We can’t talk about that.” Johnson: “The last time we did that, I got fined.” Kimmel said to Johnson, a Dodgers investor, “You could be the first man fined in two different sports.” Johnson, also an LAFC investor, said, “We had the best record in MLS last season. We lost in the playoffs, but we’re building something special.” Johnson said he “loves” being part-owner of the WNBA Sparks as well.
