Dodgers Near 4 Million Attendance As NL West Dominance Persists

The Dodgers last night finished their home regular-season schedule with a total attendance of 3,974,309 -- a 49,066 average over 81 games -- including 28 sellouts. The team led MLB in home attendance for the seventh straight year, and tallied the 10th-highest single-season mark in league history (Dodgers). The Dodgers "have sold 3 million tickets in 18 of the past 19 years." The lone exception was in '11, when a "fan boycott helped chase the McCourts out of the owners' box." Since the team was sold to Guggenheim Baseball Management in '12, it has won the NL West every year (L.A. TIMES, 9/21).

Meanwhile, the Braves "finished their home schedule with an attendance total of 2,655,100, their highest in more than a decade." This is the "first time the Braves finished with 2.6 million" since '07. The total includes a draw of 112,000 for the home finale three-game weekend series against the Giants (THEATHLETIC.com, 9/22).

The Astros on Sunday "recorded their 15th sellout of the year," with 43,169 on hand for a home win against the Angels. That put their '19 home attendance at 2,857,367, with an average crowd of 35,276. That is down from the '18 total of 2,980,549 and average of 36,797, "but still ranks seventh in team history" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/23).
