Laugh Track: Drink It Up

TBS’ Conan O’Brien said Hornets Owner Michael Jordan “announced he's launching his own brand of tequila in partnership with the owner of the Lakers, Celtics and the Bucks.” O’Brien’s sidekick, Andy Richter, said, “A bunch of rich sports dudes slapping their names on liquor to make more money. I mean, come on. What does Michael Jordan know about the fine art of,” then at this point Richter looks into the camera as dramatic Mexican guitar music begins to play and continues, “transforming the essence of the agave plant into a world-class tequila, forging the sun and the heat of the Mexican desert into liquid gold?” O’Brien deadpanned, “Those jocks probably don't know the first thing about,” but then he looks into camera and the same dramatic music begins and he continues, “carefully selected, the finest blue agave plants born in the volcanic soil of Jalisco. They’re using time-honored traditions to purify the nectar drop by drop, until you find that sweet spot between silkiness and fire.” The bit ends with the camera cutting away to a “commercial” with the voiceover saying, “Conan & Andy’s Michael Jordan Tequila, a slam dunk every time. Imported by Gringos Are Greedy” (“Conan,” TBS, 9/19).

During his regular “Thank You Notes” segment last night, NBC’s Jimmy Fallon said, “Thank you, people singing the national anthem at sporting events for answering the question: What would it sound like to hear 30,000 people mumble the word ‘ramparts’?” (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 9/19).
