Daughter Of Bills Co-Owners Captures First WTA Title In DC

Jessica Pegula, the daughter of Bills co-Owners Terry and Kim Pegula, won her "first WTA title" yesterday at the Citi Open. Pegula, 25, "fell to her knees and wiped away tears" after clinching her maiden victory (WASHINGTON POST, 8/5). Meanwhile, 15-year-old Coco Gauff and 17-year-old Caty McNally on Saturday claimed their first WTA win in doubles "in front of a capacity crowd" at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in DC. Gauff and McNally "plan to put their undefeated record as a team on the line once more at the U.S. Open later this month" (N.Y. TIMES, 8/4).

Meanwhile, Australian Nick Kyrgios yesterday won the ATP title in DC by "beating No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev in the men’s singles final." First-year tournament operator Mark Ein said the ATP/WTA event "exceeded even our wildest dreams." Ein: "It’s a real tribute to this tennis community" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 8/5).
