Sources: IndyCar In Advanced Talks For Richmond Race

Steve Snoddy

IndyCar is in advanced talks with Richmond Raceway to hold a race there in '20, sources said, and a deal should be reached barring an unforeseen hiccup. IndyCar raced at the ISC-owned venue from '01-09 and started talks last year about rekindling the relationship. The talks did not lead to a deal in time for the '19 season, but the sides have continued negotiations this year about '20. Neither IndyCar nor Richmond would comment. IndyCar last raced at an ISC facility at ISM Raceway in '18, but that race was dropped due to low attendance.

A scenario that has been discussed by sources in the paddock for months is Richmond coming onto the schedule in '20 and Pocono Raceway being dropped, but IndyCar and Pocono continue to insist publicly that they are still in talks. Pocono CEO Nick Igdalsky admitted to NASCAR media last weekend that the track has no deal for '20 with IndyCar at this point. IndyCar will race at Pocono on Aug. 18, and the series may wait until after that event to announce the '20 schedule.
