Execs To Debut Plans For 20,000-Seat Soccer Stadium In Raleigh

Execs looking to bring MLS to Raleigh will hold a news conference at 10:00am ET to debut "plans for a 20,000-seat soccer stadium that would serve as the hub for a sprawling district that would include hotels and residential and retail units." USL club North Carolina FC Owner Steve Malik has asked for more than $300M to "fund the project" -- $11M per year for 30 years, beginning in FY '22. The project is "most likely broken down in phases" with Malik, TradeMark Properties Owner Billie Redmond and local developer John Kane "potentially partnering with other developers to take the lead on specific [parts] of the complex." Malik is still "seeking an MLS expansion franchise." A stadium of about 20,000 seats is "about a normal size for MLS" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 6/24).
