Royals Top Tigers In Omaha Game Before Sellout Crowd

The "first major league game in Nebraska" was a 7-3 win for the Royals at TD Ameritrade Park before a sellout crowd of 25,454, "mostly clad in Royal blue." The win over the Tigers was sparked by the "first big-league home run" from Royals SS Nicky Lopez, a former Creighton star who "had played home games in the College World Series stadium." Royals LF Alex Gordon, a former Nebraska All-American, "sat out." Gordon did join Royals manager Ned Yost, 2B Whit Merrifield and Baseball HOFer George Brett for a Thursday press conference. The game was a "lead-in to this year's CWS" (OMAHA WORLD-HERALD, 6/14).

In what was "supposed to be the lone nationally-televised game for the Royals this season, the Lopez home run fell in the Tigers' bullpen in right field as the ESPN cameras cut off due to technical difficulties" (K.C. STAR, 6/14).
