A's Game Delayed By Lighting Issue; Fiers Throws No-Hitter

There was a "lengthy delay" at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum before last night's Reds-A's game "because of a malfunctioning bank of lights," after which A's P Mike Fiers threw a no-hitter in a 2-0 win. The contest, slated for first pitch at 7:07pm PT, was "delayed more than 90 minutes because the lighting bank beyond left field wasn’t taking effect." MLB officials "didn’t want to start the game" after 9:00. Once the Reds "saw how well lit the field remained with the other four banks of lights, the players were given time to warm up," and the game got under way at 8:45. Fiers' no-hitter was the 300th in MLB history (S.F. CHRONICLE, 5/8).
