Shaq Talks Endorsement Philosophy With NBC's Geist

Shaquille O’Neal was the focus of the “Sunday Sitdown” segment on NBC's "Sunday Today," with host Willie Geist noting O’Neal has become “one of TV's favorite pitch men.” O’Neal: “I was 19 years old when I met Magic Johnson in Los Angeles. Magic pulled me to the side and said, 'You’re going to be a big star in this league, but at some point, you’ll want to start owning things.' ... It's not about money, it's about partnership.” O’Neal talked about only endorsing products he uses: “I win the first championship and get contacted by Wheaties. ‘Hey, we want to put Shaq on the cover.’ I told my guys I can't do it. A big argument ensues like, ‘What do you mean you can't do it? It's Wheaties, the breakfast of champions.’ Growing up where I grew up, we couldn't afford Wheaties. I don’t know what Wheaties tastes like. Call Fruity Pebbles, that's what I grew up on" (“Sunday Today with Willie Geist,” NBC, 4/21).
