Jazz Owner Miller Tells Home Crowd: "We Are Not Racist"

Jazz Owner Gail Miller stood at center court of Vivint Smart Home Arena to "deliver a heartfelt message about civility and respect" before last night's game against the T'Wolves. Miller, responding to the fan incident earlier this week involving Thunder G Russell Westbrook, said, "I am extremely disappointed that one of our quote fans conducted himself in such a way as to offend not only a guest in our arena but also me personally, my family, our organization." She added, "This shouldn't happen. We are not a racist community." Miller then reminded fans of the code of conduct in the arena and warned it would be "strictly enforced" (DESERET NEWS, 3/15).

Miller before the game "sent an email to all of the fans on the Jazz’s mailing list." The email gives "more detail as to what behavior violates the NBA’s Code of Conduct, and what fans should do in case of overhearing or witnessing transgressions." The email said ticket owners are “accountable for whoever sits at (their) seats -- whether (they’re) at the game or not,” and that the Jazz have the right to revoke the season tickets of seats in violation (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 3/15).
