Calgary City Council Will Be Asked To Drop '26 Games Bid

A recommendation is "expected to come forward" today at a meeting of the Calgary City Council's Olympic committee to "kill the bid" for the '26 Games. This follows an "intense week of negotiations" over funding. Committee members will be "asked to immediately terminate the bid and cancel" a Nov. 13 plebiscite, "assuming a deal isn't reached at the 11th hour to rescue the bid." Talks between the parties continued yesterday "following a fraught weekend of negotiations." Approximately C$3B is required to "cover the public portion of the Olympic bill" (CALGARY HERALD, 10/30).
