Laugh Track: Behind Enemy Lines

Actor John Krasinski last night appeared on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live," which was broadcast from Brooklyn, New York. Host Jimmy Kimmel asked Krasinski about living in Brooklyn and being a Red Sox fan, “Do you feel like you have to hide?” Krasinski: “I never have because they're so accepting. I actually was in New York the year we won our first World Series … (and) I was actually dressed in full Red Sox regalia.” Kimmel: “Good idea.” Krasinski: “I was totally sober and I had my face painted and I was wearing a Boston Red Sox flag as a cape and I got up on the bar and was dancing on the bar and the bartender looked at me with only the way a New Yorker can look at you and says, ‘You're going to want to get down off that bar.' I was like, ‘Oh okay, this is something bigger that we’re talking about,’ and I ran out into the street and was almost hit by a garbage truck." Krasinski told the driver, "‘I’m sorry, we just won the World Series.’" Krasinski: "And he goes, ‘Good for you.’ They’d only won 19 or something up until then” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 10/16).

Last night’s edition of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” examined the history of protest by African-American athletes. Comedy Central’s Roy Wood Jr. “hosted” the segment, called “CP Time,” telling the audience, “Today is the 50-year anniversary of track stars John Carlos and Tommie Smith's historic protest for equal rights at the 1968 Olympics. Not only did they take a brave stand, they made it stylish for black people to wear gloves.” Wood: “It was a trend that lasted all the way to 1995 when O.J. Simpson singlehandedly killed it. Allegedly” (“The Daily Show,”10/16).
