Latest On Hurricane: South Carolina Cancels Home Game

South Carolina's home football game against Marshall scheduled for Saturday "has been cancelled due to Hurricane Florence," and the Gamecocks will "look for an opportunity to play a 12th regular-season game later this season." South Carolina "wanted to wait until Thursday afternoon to make a final call." But a "shift in Florence's track" yesterday, which has the storm "projected to hustle directly through Columbia, hastened the decision" (Charleston POST & COURIER, 9/13).

The Univ. of Tennessee is "offering free tickets to Saturday's football game against UTEP" to people displaced by the storm. Residents of North and South Carolina counties "under evacuation orders may claim tickets for themselves and their immediate families" beginning Saturday morning (Knoxville NEWS SENTINEL, 9/13).

Meanwhile, Iowa State football will face FCS team Incarnate Word in a Dec. 1 home game as a "makeup opponent" for a canceled game against South Dakota State. Cyclones.tv "will telecast the game." The contest "won't be played if Iowa State qualifies for the Big 12 Conference Championship" or if Incarnate Word "qualifies for the FCS playoffs." ISU will pay the San Antonio-based school $300,000 (DES MOINES REGISTER, 9/13).
