PGA Tour '18-19 Schedule Full Of "Significant" Changes

The PGA Tour this morning formally unveiled the '18-19 season schedule, and it represents what PGA Tour Exec VP & Chief of Operations Andy Pazder called the “most significant schedule change” since the FedExCup was introduced in '07. The biggest move is the reduction of playoff events from four to three -- the Northern Trust Open will alternate between the N.Y. and Boston markets -- and the season concluding before the start of the college football and NFL seasons.

Pazder said of narrowing the playoff tournaments, “Our motivation there was to position the playoffs in front of the start of football and with the Tour Championship concluding on August 25th. We feel good about our schedule. As it relates to the field sizes, we spent about a year-and-a-half talking with our player advisory council about the right flow to our playoffs." The playoff field will be set at 125, and Pazder said that represents a "very steep cut moving into the BMW Championship with 70 and our traditional number of 30 at the Tour Championship" (“Morning Drive,” Golf Channel, 7/10).
