New Jersey Sports Betting Starts Today After Years-Long Effort

New Jersey's Monmouth Park today will "take the first" legal sports bets in the state starting at 10:30am ET. Thirty minutes later, the Borgata will "become Atlantic City's first casino to begin taking such bets." Other casinos and tracks "eventually plan to offer sports betting, but none has announced plans to do so in the next few days." Online sports betting "will not start for at least 30 days in New Jersey" (AP, 6/14). Today marks the "triumphant culmination of the Garden State's sports-betting epic, a years-long tale that took it to the U.S. Supreme Court and ended with a strike down of the federal ban on sports wagering" (PHILLY.com, 6/13).
