NFL Owners Yet To Reach Decision On New Anthem Rules

NFL owners met for hours yesterday afternoon and early evening and reached no decision on whether to change rules that allow players to kneel during the national anthem. But Giants President & CEO John Mara last night after the owners broke said he thought a resolution might come today during the second half of the two-day meeting in Atlanta. That said, some of the trial balloons floated yesterday -- like a 15-yard penalty for players who kneel -- were roundly mocked on social media.

Owners appear divided on the subject, with some contending kneeling players disrespect fans who find the move unpatriotic, while others contend players have a right to do so. Some observers have blamed the kneeling for declining NFL TV ratings, though sports like NASCAR that have no kneeling issues face far steeper TV declines.
