NFL Owners To Award Super Bowls, Discuss Player Protests

NFL owners are set to approve sending the Super Bowl in '23 and '24 to Glendale and New Orleans, respectively. The approval is expected at the owners’ meeting that starts tomorrow in Atlanta. These are the first Super Bowls to be awarded under a new process in which the league negotiates with selected cities instead of through a bid system that in the past led to owners voting on a handful. Owners also are expected to award the '19 Draft to Nashville in a process that is more akin to the old Super Bowl one, with many bidders for the event.

In addition, owners are expected to debate how to handle player protests during the national anthem and whether to leave the policy to individual clubs or even keep players in the locker room during the song. The Supreme Court decision overturning the ban on sport gambling is also a key topic, though it is unlikely owners will take any specific measures in response. They are also expected to approve David Tepper’s $2.275B agreement to buy the Panthers.
