Austin City Council Could Vote To Explore MLS Stadium Site

The Austin City Council today "will move forward" with a resolution discussing the viability of McKalla Place as an MLS stadium site that could house the Crew. The resolution "would ask city staff to conduct analysis and stakeholder outreach focused on the 24-acre, city-owned location." The draft resolution "lists June 1 as the date by which the city manager is directed to return to city council with a detailed description of community benefits and employment and revenue-sharing opportunities" of an MLS team in that location (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 3/21). Council members today "will likely vote" on the resolution (MYSTATESMAN.com, 3/21).

Crew ownership group Precourt Sports Ventures in a statement asked supporters of the MLS2ATX effort to attend the hearing: "We want to make sure each of our stakeholder groups are represented in council chambers, so council members and attending media know that the Austin community supports the McKalla site and that Austin loves soccer" (PROSOCCERUSA.com, 3/21).
