Prominent Sports Figures Invest In Whoop Via Funding Round

The NFLPA, Warriors F Kevin Durant’s investment arm Durant Company, NBA Commissioner Emeritus David Stern, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and Chargers OT Russell Okung are among the sports industry luminaries involved in a $25M Series C funding round for Boston-based wearable technology company Whoop. The round was led by United Arab Emirates-based investment fund UAE71 Capital. Stern has joined Whoop as a company advisor. Also, former Puma Global CMO Antonio Bertone has been hired as Whoop’s CMO and will maintain his seat on the company’s BOD.

The funds will be used for international expansion of Whoop’s wearables and predictive analytics, marketing to grow both its consumer and elite markets, and research and development activities. Whoop is an approved in-game wearable for MLB and has relationships with the NFLPA, many individual NBA players and a growing collection of NCAA programs, including Duke men’s basketball. “There is a big opportunity in front of us to really amplify our marketing and improve our reach in each of our categories, and in turn, accelerate our trajectory,” said Whoop Founder & CEO Will Ahmed
