NASL Takes Appeal Of Second-Division Status To Federal Court

A federal judge in N.Y. today is "scheduled to hear oral arguments on the NASL's last-ditch effort to secure an injunction granting it second-division status" while its antitrust suit against U.S. Soccer is litigated. The league sued in September after the USSF "denied its application to remain second division." A month ago, U.S. District Judge Margo Brodie "denied the NASL’s request for an injunction." The NASL appealed, and its "fate now rests in the hands" of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, which "most likely will issue a ruling next week." The decision "likely hinges on the type of injunction the NASL is seeking" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 12/13).
