49ers Make Bold Move, Acquiring Garoppolo Before Trade Deadline

The 49ers in a "shock move" before today's NFL trade deadline landed QB Jimmy Garoppolo from the Patriots in exchange for second-round pick in '18. The "deft move" by the 49ers signals that coach Kyle Shanahan has "officially started his rebuild." The trade "bodes well for the future of the franchise" (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 10/31). Shanahan and 49ers GM John Lynch have "decided to push it all in eight games into their tenure, a level of impatience/urgency that both inspires and frightens." This is the "defining moment of their era to date" (NBCSPORTS.com, 10/30).
