Twenty-three-year-old Bills LB AJ Tarpley yesterday announced his retirement "because of concussions." In a post on his Instagram page, Tarpley indicated that he "suffered the third and fourth concussions of his career last season." He played in the NFL for two seasons (BUFFALO NEWS, 4/7).

Yankees investor Peter Freund is now Principal Owner of the Triple-A PCL Memphis Redbirds after a deal to buy a majority interest in the club from the MLB Cardinals officially closed (Cardinals).

Yahoo Sports' Greg Wyshynski and freelance hockey writer Dave Lozo announced the launch of a new podcast, titled "Puck Soup," as part of Nerdist Sports. The show will be Nerdist Sports' second, joining "The Jonah Keri Podcast" (Alex Silverman, Staff Writer).

During last night's Astros-Yankees game at Yankee Stadium, four more fans were spotted behind home plate as part of HBO comedian John Oliver's ongoing ticket contest. Two were "dressed like Katy Perry's sharks from her Super Bowl performance," and two were clad in "turquoise unicorn costumes" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 4/7).
