MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred today appeared on ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike" and addressed his league’s relationship with daily fantasy companies. He said, “You want to make sure that the fantasy organizations have appropriate safeguards in place to make sure that the games are fair, there’s not an inappropriate use of information and that fans who engage on these platforms have an opportunity to win. We’re very comfortable with the legality of the games that are being offered by DraftKings." Manfred added, "I have never said that I am in favor of legalized gambling and I want to be clear: Fantasy is not gambling in my view." NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also are appearing on "Mike & Mike" this morning (“Mike & Mike,” ESPN Radio, 10/27).
MLB has scheduled a variety of national TV and radio appearances to promote the start of the World Series, as has been custom in recent years. Manfred will make his first appearance since succeeding Bud Selig in responding to fan questions on MLB.com’s Chatting Cage. “The Ellen Degeneres Show,” a regular presence during the World Series each year, taped a segment on the event yesterday, while “Extra” and “Access Hollywood” also have sent crews to K.C. Former Mets P Bobby Ojeda will partake in a traditional ESPN “carwash” tomorrow in Bristol, Conn., and former Mets C Mike Piazza will appear tomorrow night on NBC’s “Late Night With Seth Meyers” (Eric Fisher, Staff Writer).
