Braves Pay Tribute To Fan Who Died After Fall At Turner Field

The Braves during yesterday's home game against the Yankees honored Gregory Murrey, the fan who died after a fall at Turner Field, by displaying his photo on the video board, observing a pregame moment of silence and flying the U.S. flag at half-staff. Braves President John Schuerholz said, "We're all dealing with the sadness and the tragedy of it for the gentleman's family and anybody who happened to witness it." He added that now is "not the time to say if the latest death at Turner Field would affect plans for the new stadium" (AP, 8/30).

USA TODAY runs a front-page piece with the headline, "Baseball Must Act On Fan Safety." It is "time for a drastic change to ballpark safety. Before another fan dies, or is hospitalized." It is "time to make it mandatory in all ballparks that safety netting is expanded at least to the dugouts" (USA TODAY, 8/31).
