Derek Jeter Fans Fill Seats At Yankee Stadium For Final Farewell

A sellout crowd of 48,613 saw Derek Jeter's final game at Yankee Stadium last night, which concluded with Jeter delivering the walk-off hit. The crowd was the club’s largest for a game this season. The sellout was the club’s 16th of the year, up from seven in ’13. The Yankees issued more than 150 daily press credentials for last night’s game, five times a typical regular-season game. More than 250 total credentialed press were in attendance. The Yankees ended the ’14 home schedule with an attendance of 3,401,624, up 3.7% from last year and the club’s first increase since ’10 (Eric Fisher, Staff Writer).

Tickets to last night's game, "fattened by the secondary market," had an average price of $830 and were said to be "the most expensive ever sold for a regular-season game in baseball history" (N.Y. TIMES, 9/26).

The morning's editions of "GMA," "CBS This Morning" and "Today" all teased Jeter's final home game at Yankee Stadium in their opening segments, with ABC running "'2' Perfect," CBS airing "One For The Ages" and NBC having "Captain Clutch!" as headlines. CBS and NBC led with reports on Jeter's final game in which he delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth inning, while ABC led with a quick highlight of the game and then aired a report about 15 minutes into their broadcast.
