Final LPGA Championship In Rochester Draws Big Crowds

Tournament officials for the final Wegmans LPGA Championship in Rochester estimate 25,000 people attended yesterday's final round, "with more than 100,000 people attending for the week." The tournament at 4:00pm ET yesterday began letting fans in for free at Monroe Golf Club, and they "came out in droves to say goodbye" to the event, which adopts a new site rotation next year as the KPMG Women's PGA Championship (GOLFCHANNEL.com, 8/17).

LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan presented the Wegman family "a frame of letters" from golfers Nancy Lopez, Paula Creamer and Annika Sorenstam "and the autographs of past Rochester champions" (ROCHESTER DEMOCRAT & CHRONICLE, 8/18). On Saturday and Sunday, players, caddies and staff wore special pins that read, "A great 38 – Rochester Rocks" (DEMOCRATANDCHRONICLE.com, 8/17).
