ESPN's Stuart Scott Accepts Jimmy V Award: "I'm Not Losing"

ESPN's Stuart Scott accepted the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at last night's ESPYS in recognition of his continued battle with cancer. His speech "provided one of the more touching moments" of the ceremony "when he thanked his family, friends and colleagues for helping him in his seven-year fight against the disease." At the end of his speech, Scott "called his daughter, Sydni, up to the stage to give him a hug" (AL.com, 7/17). See the full video of Scott's speech, including the introduction by actor Kiefer Sutherland.

The Washington Times’ Brian McNally wrote, “That @StuartScott speech was as good as it gets. For everyone fighting cancer, hope you can take just a little strength from that. Amazing.” ESPNU’s Matt Schick: “Most inspiring ESPY's speech since Jimmy V. A picture of perseverance and courage.” NFL.com’s Albert Breer: “Amazing speech, Stuart Scott. Not sure how he stayed as composed as he did.” Yahoo Sports’ Graham Watson: “I just hit the rewind button so I could watch @StuartScott again. His speech was heartbreaking and brave and poignant and inspirational.” NHL.com’s Brian Compton: “Beautiful stuff from @StuartScott last night. Keep fighting, man.”
