Upstart Detroit Radio Station Set To Acquire Pistons Rights
Detroit-based WMGC-FM today is expected to announce that it has acquired the radio rights to Pistons game broadcasts, marking what "would be the new sports station's first foray into Detroit's pro sports." It would also break up the "monopoly" of rival station WXYT-FM, which holds rights to the Lions, Red Wings and Tigers. That situation "frequently causes scheduling conflicts." This past season, 79 regular-season Pistons games aired on WXYT, with three on WWJ-AM (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 4/22).
