New Orleans Bowl Sees Third Straight Year Of Record Attendance
The R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Saturday, which featured Louisiana Lafayette-Tulane, “set yet another attendance record” with 54,728 fans, as two Louisiana-based schools played one another for the “first time in the 13-year history of the game.” It was the “third consecutive year that an attendance record was set” for the bowl game, with all three featuring ULL (Baton Rouge ADVOCATE, 12/22).
The crowd for the Gildan New Mexico Bowl featuring Colorado State-Washington State on Saturday “was officially listed at 27,104” (ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL, 12/22). Attendance for the eight-year-old event was up from a record-low crowd last year of 24,610, which featured Arizona-Nevada (THE DAILY).
The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl featuring San Diego State-Buffalo drew 21,951 fans on Saturday, marking the “smallest crowd in Boise” since ’98 (IDAHO STATESMAN, 12/22). The crowd was down 25% from the Utah State-Toledo matchup last year (THE DAILY).
