Nationals Reportedly Seeking Public Funds For $300M Retractable Roof

The Nationals reportedly have approached DC officials about building a $300M retractable roof over Nationals Park. The talks are in the preliminary stages, but “diagrams of what the proposed roof would look like as well as estimates of the cost have been presented” to Mayor Vincent Gray’s office (NBCWASHINGTON.com, 11/26).

Gray said of Nationals Owner Ted Lerner pitching a retractable roof during a meeting earlier this year: “There was no discussion about how much it was going to cost and no further details. I’ve had no further discussions.” Gray added that he “swiftly but politely rejected” the plan (WASHINGTON POST, 11/27).
