America's Cup Set Up For Exciting Finish To Much-Maligned Event
Oracle Team USA won both races yesterday to tie the America’s Cup competition at 8-8 and set up “a winner-take-all clash” today in S.F. Oracle, which at one point was down 8-1 to Emirates Team New Zealand, is on “the precipice of the greatest comeback in 162 years of America’s Cup racing” (USA TODAY, 9/25).
The S.F. CHRONICLE’s Al Saracevic writes regardless of whoever claims the Cup today, “the sport of sailing will be the big winner." Thousands of people "who never cared about the sport are now cheering their hearts out.” An S.F. CHRONICLE editorial describes the exciting finale to the much maligned event under the header, “America’s Cup: Not Bad, After All.” The N.Y. TIMES features a front-page headline that reads, "After Comeback, A Last Dash For America’s Cup."
