Friendship Baptist To Sell Church, Making Way For Falcons' Stadium
The Friendship Baptist Church congregation yesterday "overwhelmingly accepted" an offer to sell its building to make way for a new Falcons stadium. Per the deal, the team will pay $19.5M to purchase the property (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 9/23). The final vote tally was not released, but Lloyd Hawk, Chair of the church's Board of Trustees, said that "the entire congregation voted on the deal." Friendship Baptist "has been around for 151 years and at its current location for 134 years" (11ALIVE.com, 9/22).
