Laugh Track....Pay To Play

CBSSN’s Jim Rome appeared on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” last night to discuss the latest topics in the sports world. Rome said the NFL concussion lawsuit and settlement is "like any deal that you negotiate. A good deal is that both sides are unhappy. If you go to the owners they're real happy, so this is a better deal for the owners. This was supposed to be the deal to kill the sport, trust me those guys are partying right now.” Rome, on ESPN backing out of making a concussion documentary with PBS' "Frontline": “I think you can make the argument that they're in business with the NFL. The NFL backed them down, the NFL doesn’t want that information out there and that’s another thing about the settlement. Not only did they not have to pay as much money as they thought they were going to have to pay, but they didn’t have to admit any wrongdoing. They don’t have to open any internal files, the information that they didn’t want out there didn’t get out there” (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 9/11).

NBC’s Jay Leno: “Football season is back in full swing. It’s fun to see, fans are cheering, people are tailgating, the Browns are losing. It’s good to see things back. The Jets and the Patriots play each other tomorrow night and that’s got to be tough for Tim Tebow to watch, don’t you think? It’s like Taylor Swift watching a fight between John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal. They both dumped you, who do you root for? In college football, the Oklahoma State University football program is under investigation after an article published in Sports Illustrated claims players were paid cash bonuses for on-field successes. The players accepted cash just for playing. Apparently, OSU doesn't have a football program, they have a 'Johnny Football' program” (“The Tonight Show,” NBC, 9/11).

CBS’ David Letterman: “So now they’re going to sit down, the United States is going to make a deal with Russia and Syria and what could possibly go wrong? Here’s the deal: Syria will turn over their stockpiled chemicals and we send them Alex Rodriguez, that’s how it’s going to go” (“Late Show,” CBS, 9/11).
