Don Garber Says MLS Plans To Expand To 24 Franchises By '20
MLS Commissioner Don Garber last night said that the league plans to expand to 24 franchises by '20. NYC FC, starting play in '15, will be the league's 20th franchise. Miami, Orlando, Atlanta and Minneapolis are considered some of the leading candidates to be awarded expansion teams (Christopher Botta, Staff Writer). Garber said, "A lot of cities are interested. Expansion's been a big driver in the success of our league, the diversity of our ownership groups, lots of new energy. So we've got some work to do (with) four teams by the end of the decade" ("MLS All-Star Game," ESPN2, 7/31).
