Kentucky Speedway Staff Scrambles After Rain Postpones Race

Inclement weather postponed Saturday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway to Sunday, which gave track officials just 15 hours to work out logistical issues and account "for the hundreds of race day staff that could or couldn't return a day later." A "surprising" number of fans returned on Sunday "looking to fill half of the 107,000-seat complex." Track GM Mark Simendinger said of reduced amenities like fewer concession stands, "There were certain parts of today that were not optimal, but we just did the best we could" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 7/1).

The CHARLOTTE OBSERVER's Jim Utter writes yesterday's race "certainly was more entertaining than the track's first two Sprint Cup Series races," which were run on Saturday nights. The track "may want to take a long look as to whether it should make the day race permanent" (THATSRACIN.com, 6/30).
