Penguins Acquire Iginla; Player May Have Opted Not To Go To Bruins

The Penguins late last night acquired RW Jarome Iginla from the Flames, adding "the most coveted player available for the approaching NHL trade deadline" (PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW, 3/28). The Bruins’ anticipated trade for Iginla "seemed tantalizingly close to fruition" last night, "and was in fact reported by TSN to be a done deal" (BOSTON HERALD, 3/28).

The TRIBUNE-REVIEW's Dejan Kovacevic writes, "One of the biggest trades in Pittsburgh sports history, and how many of us were awake?" Kovacevic: "Anyone else wonder if Iginla chose the Penguins over the Bruins?" There had been "amazingly definitive" reports that Iginla "was Boston-bound" (TRIBLIVE.com, 3/28).
