Browns Make Surprising Head Coach Hire With Rob Chudzinski
The Browns today will introduce Rob Chudzinski as their 14th full-time head coach and sixth since the '99 re-expansion. Chudzinski is a former Browns assistant who spent the last two seasons as Panthers offensive coordinator and "has never been a head coach before at any level." He convinced new Owner Jimmy Haslam III and CEO Joe Banner that he is "ready for the next step in his career" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 1/11).
The Cleveland PLAIN DEALER's Bud Shaw writes Chudzinski is "young, smart and schooled on the offensive side. ... You always got the idea Banner and Haslam wanted to put their own stamp on their first major hire." But the PLAIN DEALER's Terry Pluto writes, "I'm still stunned by the hire and never expected it. ... The Browns are taking a chance."
